Life at LBSNAA ... indescribable! That is the one word which sum up the ambience of our Academy.
The campus is a virtual melting pot where people across generations,from every part of our country and beyond, come in contact with each other. It is a place where participants from every state of our diverse country, speaking different languages, with diverse qualifications and socio-educational backgrounds meet, interact and learn from each other.
Most of the faculty are senior administrators who combine the richness of their field experience with the brilliance of their qualifications to provide the most stimulating atmosphere possible. Our faculty also has world class researchers and academicians who make the academy the cutting edge of research in administration and related disciplines.
The participants range from the brilliant young women and men beginning their career in public service, after qualifying in a gruelling competetive examination, to officials at the level of secretary. This varried mix of people results in a continuous process of innovations and improvements in administration.
The young officers from the various All India Services undergoing their initiation into the government make the campus bustle with life and humour. Their hectic academic schedule does not prevent them from ensuring that the entire year is full of cultural programs, sports competitions, get-togethers, treks, music and dance. Their limitless energy and thought provoking ideas make LBSNAA a vibrant place.
The In-Service courses bring the richness of experience and the wisdom of maturity, to the Academy, as the novices and the experts interact to find the most practical solutions to the problems facing the country. The increasing interaction with academicians, bureaucrats and researchers from the rest of the world, through international conferences, seminars and collaborative programs, has made the campus even more effervescent.
But perhaps the best part of campus life is the total informality among all the participants, be it the faculty, the Officer Trainees or the Guest Lecturers and participants. All expresses their views freely and without any reservations, helping the academy receive the best ideas and suggestions.
The physical infrastructure helps make life at LBSNAA an experience of a lifetime. Horse riding in the Polo ground, nestled amidst towering mountains and with a breathtaking view of the ice covered peaks of the Himalayas, can exhilarate any soul. Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Billiards and Squash - you name it and its there. The library overlooks the beautiful valleys and mountains of the higher Himalayas, while the Computers in every room and office connect the campus through Internet to the world.
In all, the academy blends the modern and the traditional, the young and the old, the entrants and the experts, in an atmosphere which can never be described fully in words. It must be experienced.

Focus: How important is it?
To have a goal is like having a road map.
It shows you where to go, and where not to go. Would you begin a trip to an unknown city without first looking at a map? Probably not.
Amazingly though, many people conduct their lives without any personal road map to success. Goals are like a map. They help us determine where we want to end up, and give us personal direction on which to focus our energy.
Once you decide what it is you want, set your sights and start taking action to achieve it.
This "action" is the commitment on your part.
And, once you are committed to a goal, really committed, problems are short term.
With your entire "focus" on your goal, you will reach levels of achievement that you never thought possible.
Without goals, you will end up going nowhere, or,. you will end up following someone else's map!

Persistence!!
One of the keys to being successful in anything you do is persistence. Once you have determined exactly what it is you want to accomplish, you must take massive action on a consistent, persistent basis in order to succeed. Think of it like building a muscle. If you have never weight trained before, the first time you walk into a gym, chances are you will not be able to bench press 250 lbs. However, if you are persistent, and you consistently go back to the gym, you will find yourself getting stronger and closer to your goal with each and every visit.
One of the things you'll notice on your journey towards your goal, are roadblocks. That is, you will encounter obstacles that seem to jump out of nowhere in an attempt to halt your progress. Count on these obstacles. They are a part of life. Everyone would have every success they ever wanted if there were no obstacles. Your job is to be persistent and work through those obstacles. If you find little or no obstacles along the way, chances are you are not really challenging yourself. And when you do reach your goal, you won't experience the feeling of 'sweet success'. Make your goal a challenging one!
If you take the time to study any successful person, you will learn that the vast majority of them have had more 'failures' than they have had 'successes'. This is because successful people are persistent; the more they stumble and fall, the more they get right back up and get going again. On the other hand, people that don't get back up and try again, never reach success. For example, Walt Disney was turned down 302 times before he got financing for his dream of creating the "Happiest Place on Earth". Today, due to his persistence, millions of people have shared 'the joy of Disney'. Colonel Sanders spent two years driving across the United States looking for restaurants to buy his chicken recipe. He was turned down 1,009 times! How successful is Kentucky Fried Chicken today?
Having said this, keep in mind that you must constantly reevaluate your circumstances and the approach you are using to reach your goal. There is no sense in being persistent at something that you are doing incorrectly! Sometimes you have to modify your approach along the way. Every time you do something you learn from it, and therefore find a better way to do it the next time.
Today is the day to begin your journey, using consistency and persistency, towards tomorrow's successes!
The Mountain Story!!
A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!"
He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!"
The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE.
It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart.
If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;
Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

You are Indian if..
1. Everything you eat is savored In garlic, onion and tomatoes.
2. You try and reuse gift wrappers, gift boxes, and of course aluminum foil.
3. You try to eject food particles from between your teeth by pressing your tongue against them and making a peculiar noise like, tshick, tshick, tschick, tschick.
4. You are standing next to the two largest size suitcases at the Airport.
5. You arrive one or two hours late to a party - and think its normal.
6. You peel the stamps off letters that the Postal Service missed to mark up.
7. You recycle Wedding Gifts.
8. You name your children in rhythms
9. All your children have pet names, which sound nowhere close to their real names.
10. You take Indian snacks anywhere it says "No Food Allowed"
11. You talk for an hour at the front door when leaving someone's house.
12. You load up the family car with as many people as possible.
13. You use plastic to cover anything new in your house whether it's the remote control, VCR, carpet or new couch.
14. Your parents tell you to not care what your friends think but they won't let you do certain things because of what the other "Uncles And Aunties"will think.
15. You buy and display crockery, which is for special occasions, which never happen.
16. You have a vinyl tablecloth on your kitchen table.
17. You use grocery bags to hold garbage.
18. You keep leftover food in your fridge in as many numbers of bowls as possible.
19. Your kitchen shelf is full of jam jars, varieties of bowls and plastic utensils (got free with some household items).
20. You carry a stash of your own food whenever you travel (and travel means any car ride longer than 15 minutes).
21. You own a rice cooker or a pressure cooker.
22. You fight over who pays the dinner bill.
23. You majored in engineering, medicine or law & now........are after Software and only Software no matter which field you belong to.
24. You live with your parents and you are 40 years old. (And they prefer it that way).
25. You don't use measuring cups when cooking.
26. You feel like you've gotten a good deal if you didn't pay tax.
27. You never learnt how to stand in a queue.
28. You can only travel if there are 5 persons at least to see you off or receive you whether you are traveling by bus, train or plane.
29. If she is NOT your daughter, you always take interest in knowing whose daughter has run with whose son and feel rush to spread it at the velocity of more than the speed of light.
30. You only make long distance calls after 11 p.m.
31. If you don't live at home, when your parents call, they ask if you've eaten, even if it's midnight.
32. You call an older person you never met before "uncle."
33. When your parents meet strangers and talk for afew minutes, you discover you're talking to a distant cousin.
34. Your parents don't realise phone connections to foreign countries hav improved in the last 2 decades, and still cream at the top of their lungs when making foreign calls.
35. You have bed sheets on your sofas so as to keepthem away from getting dirty.
36. When dining out, you think Rs 10 is enough of a tip.
37. It's embarrassing if your wedding has less than 600 people.
38. You list your daughter as "fair and slim" in thematrimonial no matter what she looks lik
39. You treat the NRI persons (especially fromAmerica) as if they are the only persons living in this world (includingYOU).
40. You've seen the ground while inside the lavatory of a train.
41. All your tupperware is stained with food color.
42. You have drinking glasses made of steel.
43. You have mastered the art of bargaining in shopping.
